Lawyers are a privileged group. We are the people in the world that are trained to solve the problems that plague society. Problem-solving is such a critical skill that, generally, lawyers are paid well when providing services to our clients. I am sure you have heard that to those that much is given, much is expected. Just doing well is not enough. To have a complete and successful life, you must do well and good at the same time.

This year, I am honored to be the President of the Westchester County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Westchester County Bar Association. You can and should use the Westchester County Bar Foundation as a vehicle to help you meet the obligation of doing “good” in your life. As a result of the generosity of people like yourself, the Bar Foundation funds a two-year fellowship program whereby a recent law graduate is placed to work at a not-forprofit legal services organization in Westchester County. We help to provide legal services to those most in need in our community.

The Westchester County Bar Foundation finances the salary of the fellow. The host organization trains and supervises the fellow as if they are a staff attorney. We have been running this program since 2007. This year, our fellow is Kaylin Bridglall. She is in the second year of her Fellowship with Student Advocacy. She is providing educational assistance services to those in dire need of help. She is addressing issues of students under the Individuals with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the Civil Rights Law.

At the conclusion of the two-year fellowship, most of our fellows have remained in public service, rendering legal services to underserved, under-represented members of our community. They have done so in the areas of family law, housing law, immigration law, criminal law and employment law.

Financing the fellowship is indeed expensive. No other bar association or bar foundation of our size provides such a comprehensive program. Our main fundraiser is coming up on October 29, 2025. This fourteenth annual benefit will be held at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY. Our honorees this year are stars of the Westchester legal community, the Honorable William J. Giacomo, Supreme Court Justice of the Ninth Judicial District, a longtime supporter of the Westchester County Bar Foundation, and the law firm of Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever, LLP who have always been an avid supporter of the Westchester County Bar Association and Foundation.

So, my colleagues, help us help you do good. Your financial support of this event will not only provide much deserved recognition to our outstanding honorees for their long-time contributions to our legal community, it will allow the Westchester County Bar Foundation to continue to help provide legal services to those in our community whose needs, unfortunately, are not being met.

Hon. Adam Seiden is a past Vice President of the New York State Bar Association for the Ninth Judicial District. Judge Seiden has been admitted to practice law in the State of New York for approximately 49 years. He is a sole practitioner with a general practice located in Mt. Vernon, New York. He recently retired (mandatory) after 27 years as Associate City Court Judge of the Mount Vernon City Court where he published in excess of 100 decisions in the New York Official Reports. Judge Seiden is a past president of both the Mount Vernon and Westchester County Bar Associations and is Chairman of the 50+ Section of the New York State Bar Association. He was also a member of the House of Delegates for the American Bar Association. Judge Seiden holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehman College, Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School and LLM degree from New York University School of Law.
