THE LATEST NEWS - MARCH

March 31, 2020
This Thursday, April 2nd, NYSBA will be a hosting a webinar from 11 AM - 12 PM entitled, "The Stimulus Package Survival Guide: What Solos and Small Firms Should Know."

On March 25th, the Senate passed HR 478, The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”). NYSBA understands the deep impact this act can have and wants to provide a complimentary guide to its intricacies. In this one-hour webinar, panelists will describe four areas of benefits available to lawyers under the statutes and regulations to help small and medium-sized firms, and solos, survive the Pandemic:
  • SBA Loans, with potential forgiveness, if you have less than 500 employees
  • Enhancement in unemployment insurance for terminated employees
  • Business Interruption Insurance
  • Other available assistance programs
Please note that this webinar is FREE for NYSBA members and is 1.0 MCLE Credits. To register, please click HERE.

During this current COVID-19 crisis, you can provide invaluable pro bono help - in your area of practice!
Pro Bono Partnership (www.probonopartner.org), based in White Plains, is a nonprofit legal services organization that engages lawyers to provide non- litigation pro bono services to charitable groups throughout NY, NJ and CT.

Many of the Partnership’s clients face employment law issues. This is especially true during this crisis, with nonprofits facing questions about reduction in hours, layoffs, sick leave issues, unemployment benefits questions, FMLA questions, and more.

Volunteering for the Partnership is easy! Much of the needed advice is brief, and can be done remotely via telephone and/or email.
If you are able to help, or would like to learn more about the Partnership’s other volunteer opportunities, please contact Lauren Fishman, the Partnership’s Pro Bono Manager, at lfishman@probonopartner.org

As the New York State Courts continue to calibrate and adjust operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Vito C. Caruso, under the guidance of Chief Judge Janet DiFiore and Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks, today announced that the “virtual court” model introduced last week in New York City’s Criminal Court and Family Court to minimize courthouse traffic and contain the spread of the virus is being implemented outside New York City. Virtual court operations will begin this week in Suffolk County’s District Court and County Court; the Rochester area’s Seventh Judicial District; and Central New York’s Fifth Judicial District.
