Message From the President
Jody Fay, Esq.
Welcome to the Westchester County Bar Association website! We appreciate your visit and hope you will find the information and resources we have compiled helpful. This website is our latest effort to provide timely and useful information to you, our members, and to encourage visitors who are not yet members to join our Association. Please continue to visit our website regularly because it is continually updated with new and exciting information.
Why join the WCBA? We are the largest bar association in the County, and we also represent the local and specialty bar associations with the New York State and American Bar Associations. We are the voice of the Westchester bar in matters affecting our County and our profession, locally, regionally and nationally.
Westchester County is unique. It is made up of major cities such as Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and White Plains, small villages and towns close to New York City such as Bronxville and Mamaroneck, larger villages and towns within a 45-minute train ride from the City such as Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, and Bedford, and rural communities such as Lewisboro, North Salem, and Pound Ridge.
The Westchester County Bar is the association to join.
Our County bar is unique. Although we share a close relationship with the County, our membership is quite diverse: many practice as sole practitioners or in small or mid-size local or regional law firms, some are in-house counsel for closely-held or major international corporations, others serve the government and are in other forms of public service, and still others practice with major national and international law firms here and in the City.
Our members are our most important asset.
We are dedicated to providing our member with ongoing help including CLE programs, networking opportunities and other guidance when needed. Each and every member matters to the Westchester County Bar Association. All for one and one member at a time.
Our Association's Sections and Committees are the bedrock of the organization. Our dynamic New Lawyers Section
, which allows newly-admitted attorneys to meet one another and share experiences and concerns, is only one of our many active Sections and Committees
that provide opportunities for our members. We also encompass numerous other Sections and Committees that provide our members with opportunities to meet with colleagues from their practice areas and to continue learning through interesting and affordable Continuing Legal Education
(CLE, which is mandatory in New York) programs. Members also are encouraged to participate in and contribute to the Westchester legal community by becoming involved with committees such as Pro-Bono
, or by lending their literary talents to the Westchester Bar Journal
and monthly Newsletter.
Under the leadership of our Executive Director Donna Drumm, Esq. and her able staff, the Association provides numerous member benefits. For example, we offer insurance and banking programs, high quality, low cost CLE, and a monthly Newsletter that contains timely articles on professional developments of interest, personal notes, local activities within the profession, and classified advertisements. We also have an active and ever expanding Lawyer Referral Service, which allows us to direct prospective clients to our members who have the requisite experience in pertinent practice areas.
We recently amended our rules to allow non-attorneys whose professional and business interests support the legal profession to join the Association as affiliate members. We are pleased that these new members will support us in expanding our ability to provide CLE programs addressing the administrative and business aspects of the practice of law, areas we know to be of timely interest and concern to our members. We are committed to forging mutually beneficial relationships with our affiliate members and the local business community.
Don't be left out.
If you are already a member, we encourage you to attend our numerous events and programs and participate in our organization's Sections and Committees. If you are not a member, now is the time to join us and see for yourself what you have been missing!
