Unlawful Practice of Law Committee

The Unlawful Practice of Law Committee was established to prevent the practice of law in Westchester County by those not properly admitted to the bar and to monitor activities that foster the unlawful practice of law.  Unlawful practice of law, as defined in the New York State Judiciary Law, is generally seen in the following areas:  paralegal activity made available to the public through quasi-legal organizations that perform activities without proper supervision, cross-jurisdictional practice by members of the bar outside of New York State, and practice by those licensed in other areas but that is of a legal nature  -- principally occurring in the fields of real estate, architecture, and accounting.

The Committee  strongly believes that its first responsibility is to protect the public and not to protect the pecuniary interests of the Association's membership.  To this end, it works closely with other bar associations, the New York State Attorney General's Office, and other organizations.

We welcome inquiry from all members of the bar and the public.
